28/05/2014: High-speed fibre broadband is now available to the first homes and businesses in Bolton le Sands. Around 200 homes and businesses in the village now have access to the high-speed, fibre technology and that figure will increase as engineers from BT Openreach complete more local upgrades in the coming months. BT’s investment was welcomed by Daniel Bullen, PR Manager of Partner Technology, who described it as great news for the area. He said: “Superfast fibre broadband in Bolton le Sands offers huge benefits to the local residents and businesses and will help our local economy to flourish. Whether you’re a small business wanting to stay in touch with customers and suppliers, or parents with children using the internet for homework and playing games, whatever you do online, you can do it much better and faster with fibre broadband. Lots of Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) offer superfast fibre broadband for homes, often bundled with phone and TV packages as well, however as the switchover to fibre broadband doesn’t happen automatically you will need to contact your ISP, alternatively contact Jon Askew on 01524 730511 for free advice on switching to fibre broadband. 11/05/2014: RISING music star Amy-Jo Clough braved the icy cold weather in Coniston to film her latest music video. The 16-year-old Bolton-le-Sands singer stepped in front of the camera at Yewdale Bridge for new track ‘In Your Hands’. The song was penned by Amy-Jo for the soundtrack of a locally-made gymnastics short film ‘Fighting For Perfection’. The film and music video were directed by Barrow film-maker and photographer Lindsey Dickings, who approached Amy-Jo to write the song. Lindsey, a big fan of Amy-Jo’s ‘fantastic’ voice, said the song was about ‘getting back up if you are knocked down, and trying again, not giving in’. Amy-Jo wrote performed and composed the song with the help of her music producer Jon Rasmussen. Additional filming for the video took place at Abbots Wood in Barrow. Country/soul singer Amy-Jo won North West Search for a Star at the age of 13, and since then has performed to audiences as large as 25,000, alongside artists including The Vamps, Union J, Little Nikki and The Brit School. Amy-Jo said, “I had the most fantastic day filming my music video for ‘In Your Hands’ – it was chilly but a great day!” The inspirational tale focuses on a gymnast’s fight to achieve perfection, as seen through the eyes of the lead character Molly, played by local gymnast Emma Newsham.
